Quality Education Experience because of ACCE
Giles County, VA- Over the next few weeks, we will continue highlight a few of the 2021 ACCE students. ACCE stands for Access to Community College Education and is a program designed to provide tuition scholarships to New River Community College to Giles County graduates. The Muddy ACCE Race is a primary fundraiser to support the program. Here we have Ty Robertson, a recent graduate and current volunteer with the Tourism Marketing Office of Giles County. All ACCE students have volunteer hour requirements as part of their successful enrollment in the program. In his volunteer time with Giles County Ty has been stocking and delivering Visitor Guides and trail maps to area businesses and attractions and prepare for the Muddy ACCE Race event!
Q: Please tell us a little bit about yourself. A: I am Ty Robertson and I graduated from Narrows High School in 2021. I will be attending New River Community College for Computer Science through the ACCE program. After completing my Associate’s degree at NRCC, I will transfer to Virginia Tech to pursue a Master’s degree in Computer Science.
Q: How did you participate in the ACCE Program? A: I am an ACCE student who will be helping set up the Muddy ACCE Race as well as assisting those running in the event. I pursued the ACCE program knowing I will receive a quality education for free. I hope to learn and experience many new things while at New River.
Q: Why did you get involved with the Access to Community College Education program? A: I became involved with the Muddy ACCE Race as a community service requirement. Working the race allows me to support an event that is an essential part of my ACCE funding. I am looking forward to seeing all of the ACCE supporters run through obstacles while having an amazing time.
Q: What is the one thing you’ll take away from the ACCE program or MAR event? A: While being awarded two years of free college education for my service, I will also be able to help my community in several ways.
Q: If you could share a sentiment to those considering the program, perhaps as a student- what would you tell them? A: The ACCE program makes a huge difference in many students’ lives. It allows the opportunity for students to attend college without the financial burden that other colleges have. It also teaches students the importance of community service and its effect on others. The ACCE program is truly amazing.
